Short answer
Adyen test cards carry CVC values that Adyen lists on its test card page. Each test card has a fixed CVC and a fixed expiry date. Test cards run in test mode. They decline on live transactions. No test CVC tells you anything about a live card's CVV.
Understanding Adyen Test CVV Questions
Where the test CVC comes from
Adyen, like Stripe and other processors, issues test card numbers so developers can run checkout flows without moving real money. A test card record holds a card number, an expiry month and year, and a CVC. Adyen's documentation lists each value. If a test card's CVC is not on the page you are reading, treat it as unknown and check Adyen's current test card table.
Why test CVC values are open
Test values have no link to a cardholder account. A test card number does not route to an issuer. It routes to the processor's sandbox, which returns a scripted response. Test values cost nothing to share because they cannot authorize a charge.
What a test CVC cannot do
- It cannot validate a live card.
- It cannot pass 3-D Secure or issuer risk checks on a live account.
- It cannot be used to guess a real CVV. A live CVV is 3 or 4 digits, the space is small, and issuers block and rate-limit enumeration attempts.
Rules that apply to real CVVs
PCI DSS requirement 3.2 forbids storing the CVV after authorization, even in encrypted form. A merchant that keeps CVV data fails assessment. Card networks treat CVV enumeration as fraud. In the US, 18 U.S.C. Section 1029 covers trafficking in card credentials, and 18 U.S.C. Section 1028A covers identity theft tied to card use.

Other fixed test values
Adyen test cards also carry fixed expiry dates and fixed cardholder names. Sandbox behavior depends on the amount and the card: some test cards return a decline, some return a 3-D Secure challenge. The processor sets that response, not the CVC.
