What makes Joker merchandise official

Official Joker merchandise is licensed by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and DC. Every licensed item carries a copyright line. On figures and apparel it reads "TM & © DC" or "© Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc." A printer can copy the same artwork without a license. The copyright line is the difference.

Licensees that make Joker product

Figures and statues

McFarlane Toys holds the DC Multiverse license and produces 7-inch scale figures. Funko makes Pop! vinyl figures for both the 2019 film and Joker: Folie à Deux. Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles make 1/6 scale and premium format pieces. Those two run limited runs, so restocks are not guaranteed.

Apparel and accessories

Bioworld and Isaac Morris hold DC apparel licenses in the US. Product shows up at Walmart, Target, Hot Topic, and Amazon. The seller is not the licensor. The tag still carries the DC line.

How to check a listing

  1. Find the copyright line on the packaging photo. Licensed product shows it on the box or the hang tag.
  2. Look for the licensee name in the description: Funko, McFarlane, Hot Toys, Sideshow, Rubie's.
  3. Compare the price against DC Shop or Warner Bros. Shop. A figure listed at half of retail is a red flag.
  4. Check the release date. Film tie-in product ships near the theatrical window, not months later.

On the word "new"

A product is new when the licensee announces it. Preorders open before stock lands. Announcement dates and ship dates differ. If a ship date is not listed on the licensee's own page, that date is unknown. DC Shop and Warner Bros. Shop list ship windows. Reseller listings often do not.

What a license does not cover

Fan art, customs, and print-on-demand shops sit outside the license. That does not make them illegal in every case. It does mean the sale is not an official release. For a collector, the resale value tracks the licensed run, not the custom.
