The Joker official trailer is the studio-released preview for Warner Bros. Pictures' 2019 film Joker, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck. Two official trailers exist. The first teaser arrived on April 3, 2019, and the final trailer followed on August 28, 2019. Both run roughly two and a half minutes and both were published through Warner Bros. Pictures channels.
What the official trailers show
The teaser sets up Arthur Fleck as a struggling party clown in a decaying Gotham City. It leans on slow camera moves, Phoenix's laugh, and a soundtrack cue of "Smile" by Jimmy Durante. The final trailer adds more of the talk show footage with Murray Franklin, played by Robert De Niro, plus the subway confrontation that turns Arthur into a public symbol. Neither trailer reveals the ending.
How to confirm a trailer is official
Fan edits, re-uploads, and reaction cuts flood search results, so check the source before you trust a clip.
- Open the Warner Bros. Pictures channel on YouTube and confirm the verified checkmark next to the name.
- Search that channel for "Joker" and sort results by upload date.
- Match the upload date to the studio's press release, which lists April 3, 2019, for the teaser and August 28, 2019, for the final trailer.
- Read the description and confirm it credits Warner Bros., DC Films, and the cast list.
- Check the runtime stamp against the known length of about two minutes and thirty seconds.
Common mix-ups
Several unrelated clips get labeled as the Joker official trailer. Trailers for the 2008 film The Dark Knight, for Joker: Folie à Deux from 2024, and for animated Batman series all surface under the same search. Fan-made concept trailers also appear, often with a re-cut score and footage pulled from other Phoenix films. Look for the studio logo card at the start and the rating card at the end. The 2019 film carries an R rating, and the official trailer includes the green band or red band card that matches it.
